JRE Installation Help
 

Follow the instructions below to either install or update Java Runtime Environment (JRE) on your computer. Please note that the update is only required if your JRE is older than version 1.4.1.

An excellent way to determine whether you have JRE on your Windows system and the version is to look in the "Add/Remove Programs" dialog box. You can access this by clicking on "Start", choose "Control Panel", and click on "Add/Remove Programs". Below is an example of the dialog box as seen on a Window XP machine.

Download JRE
 

Sun provides the official Java Runtime Environment (JRE). You can download a version on your Windows computer by visiting www.java.com and clicking on the "Begin Download" button.

   
Install JRE
 

You can install the JRE on your system by running the program set up process that Sun offers.

For your convenience, screenshots have been provided below detailing the installation of the latest version of JRE (Java Runtime Environment Version 5.0 Update 6) on a Windows XP computer.

   
 

Step 1
The installer loads all the necessary resources required to run Java Runtime Environment Version 5.0 Update 6 on your computer.

You must read and agree to the JRE License Agreement and determine whether you want a "Typical" or "Custom" set up.

The installer begins to copy the files onto your computer.

The installer is complete and the new JRE has been updated/installed. You may be prompted to restart your computer after selecting "Finish".
